A Victorian tradition! Radio Sport 927 is the trading name of 3UZ Pty Ltd, Melbourne's oldest commercial radio station, first broadcasting in March 1925. The station format has changed several times since its inception to meet the changing tastes and interests of the Melbourne community. In the past, the people of Melbourne have been entertained and informed with: • Great singers and entertainers of the 1920's and 1930's. • All the news of wars, disasters and triumphs. • Classic radio serials and quiz shows. • Coverage of most of the greatest Grand Finals and Melbourne Cups. • Some of the greatest personalities in the history of Australian radio including Graham Kennedy, Bert Newton, Tony Barber and John Blackman. In 1986, the Victorian thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing codes purchased the station. Race broadcasts were re-introduced in 1988, and since that time, the station has steadily developed and refined its coverage to the extent that it now has a pivotal role in promoting both the racing industry and wagering. In late 1996, the station changed its name to Radio Sport 927 to reflect its presentation of the first general sport and racing format broadcast on Australian radio. In addition to providing Australia's premier racing coverage, Radio Sport 927 covers all major sports to satisfy the insatiable needs of our fanatical sports audience. The race broadcasts are complemented by a plethora of analytical racing programs all designed to help punters pick winners. Whilst Radio Sport 927 provides a superb racing coverage all year round, it steps into overdrive at Spring Carnival time to accommodate the enormous interest in Australia's no.1 sporting and social event. At Carnival time, Radio Sport 927's already substantial audience increases with many seasonal racing enthusiasts tuning in to get the valuable wagering information that only we can offer. Statewide coverage Over the last few years, Radio Sport 927 has purchased a number of stations in major Victorian regional cities, extending its coverage to almost the whole of State.
